BGG - WYSIWYG Discover the pinnacle of minting artistry with the Proof Gold American Eagle 4-Coin Set, a true testament to the U.S. Mint’s dedication to excellence. Every coin is meticulously hand-struck at West Point in the labor-intensive proof minting process, then individually inspected for the tiniest flaws. Then they’re sealed in protective plastic capsules to preserve their crisp, frosted engravings and mirror-bright backgrounds.
These mintage-year matched sets of proof gold coins are quite rare, even more exclusive than the already-limited-quantity proof gold coins from the U.S. Mint. Some years they weren’t minted at all. This factor makes a complete set, in its original presentation packing with certificate of authenticity (CoA), even more desirable.
U.S. Mint’s proof-quality gold coins are struck with hand-polished dies in a very time-consuming, labor-intensive process. The level of detail on these coins is exceptional, as the proof minting process contributes to higher contrast between crisp, frosted engravings and polished, mirror-bright fields.
In 2021, on the 35th anniversary of the American gold eagle’s first mintage, the U.S. Mint released an update to the classic design. This updated design, called “Type 2,” is now the standard. The obverse, an iconic depiction of Lady Liberty by famed artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens (originally created for the 1904 double eagle gold coin) is essentially unchanged. However, the mint was able to return to Saint-Gaudens’s original artwork and incorporate a greater level of detail into the finished coin. Both basically unchanged, yet still better than before.
The reverse of the Type 2 American gold eagle is totally different. Instead of the familiar design of a bald eagle swooping down to its nest, we have a side-profile, incredibly detailed, of an eagle: bright, piercing eye staring straight out, wickedly hooked beak prominent, the whole thing rendered with exquisite attention to detail down to the differing textures of the features on the eagle’s face. The design is a testament to both artist Jennie Norris and medallic artist Renata Gordon.
Each proof gold coin set includes one 1 oz, one 1/2 oz, one 1/4 oz and one 1/10 oz American gold eagle totaling 1.85 troy oz sealed in their original plastic capsules with original U.S. Mint packaging and documentation.
These 4-coin proof gold American eagle sets are extremely hard to find. Each year’s full mintage sells out within hours at the U.S. Mint, and buyers are extremely reluctant to sell them. Don’t miss this golden opportunity – Birch Gold Group doesn’t often have these proof gold coin sets in stock…
