Birch Gold Prices & Fees
BGG - Table of Contents Birch Gold Group offers two options for your physical precious metals purchase:
- Home delivery
- Precious Metals IRA ownership
When you make a cash purchase for home delivery, there are no additional fees. We quote your prices, you send payment, then your order is insured and shipped at no additional cost.
Precious Metals IRA purchases are a bit different. When you set up your Precious Metals IRA through Birch Gold Group, you’ll also be engaging two additional service providers: your custodian, who manages paperwork and ensures IRS compliance; and your depository, which securely stores your physical precious metals.
You will choose your preferred custodian and depository. (Your Precious Metals Specialist can make recommendations, if you like, but the choice is yours.) You may not know it, but you already have a custodian handling your retirement accounts. You’ll have a similar relationship with your new custodian: you have direct access to your custodian, and pay fees directly to them as well.
Depending on your selections, you’ll pay initial account set-up fees, then annual storage, insurance and management fees.
Note that these are not Birch Gold prices or fees. The initial set-up and first year’s fees can be deducted from the balance once the account has been funded, so you can open your Precious Metals IRA account without taking a single dollar out of your pocket. (And, if your initial purchase is $50,000 or more, Birch Gold Group pays the first year’s fees for you.)
An example of Birch Gold customer custodial and depository fees
Here’s an example of the custom fee schedule from Equity Trust, one of our preferred custodians, with storage at Delaware Depository Services Company:
| One-Time Fees | Account Setup Fee: $50 | Wire Transfer Fee: $30 | Total: $80* |
| Annual Fees | Storage and Insurance: $110 | Custodial Fees: $125 | Total: $235 |
*For transfers over $50,000, your first year’s fees are waived entirely.
Your custodian manages your paperwork, filing forms and so on. Your custodian never touches your assets.
Instead, in accordance with IRS regulations, your assets are stored and physically secured by a precious metals depository. Your depository is a completely separate institution solely focused on safeguarding your assets, which remain in your name. This separation is important because it reduces counterparty risk – meaning no single institution ever controls both the custody and storage of your metals, adding yet another layer of protection to your savings.
Depository fees vary, depending on the institution you choose and the size of your investment. Just to give you a rough idea of depository fees, estimate about $110/year for storage and insurance costs.
There are no other fees associated with the management of your IRA.
Hypothetical example of Birch Gold customer fees for a new Precious Metals IRA
Imagine Donald and Sarah, two new Gold IRA customers. They want to know more about Birch Gold prices and fees, based on their initial 401(k) transfer of $150,000 and their selection of custodian Equity Trust Company and International Depository Services as their depository.
Their fees would be:
- Set-up fees: $0 (waived for $50,000+ deposit)
- Annual fees: First year: $0 (waived for $50,000+ deposit)
- Subsequent years: $235
As you can see, it’s not expensive to have a Precious Metals IRA (in the example above, the annual expense works out to just 0.15% – even lower when they added more funds to their IRA). Even so, many Birch Gold customers choose to pay their annual fees out of pocket, to avoid reducing the value of their precious metals investment.
Birch Gold prices on gold and silver
Here at Birch Gold, we do not quote product prices online. Why not?
We specialize in Precious Metals IRAs. Opening and transferring retirement funds into a Precious Metals IRA takes time – 5-10 business days minimum, as long as six weeks in rare cases. Any Birch Gold prices provided would fluctuate over this period, and become irrelevant by the time you are actually ready to purchase your gold and silver. Gold and silver, even platinum and palladium, are internationally traded commodities. Their prices fluctuate minute to minute, 23 hours a day, Sunday through Friday.
Spot prices (synonymous with melt value) serve as a general benchmark and are important in determining growth. However, they don’t include the real-world costs of fabrication, shipping, storage and insurance that determine the price of physical precious metals in their physical form. Market prices will vary depending on a number of factors including weight, mint or manufacturer, IRA certification and the availability of specific coins or bars. In other words, market prices are affected by more than the value of the metal itself.
Birch Gold doesn't operate like an online retailer. Rather than a fixed inventory of products, we maintain a network of trusted wholesalers across the country. When you’re ready to make a purchase, our specialists solicit competitive bids from multiple suppliers to secure your chosen products at the best available price. (It’s a sourcing model that gives our customers institutional-level access to competitive prices, not the typical retail markups.)
Because each order is customized and fulfilled in real time, we don’t know the exact Birch Gold prices until your order is finalized. That’s how we ensure you pay the true price for the metals you actually receive – not a placeholder price from a random website.
More information on Birch Gold prices
Current Birch Gold prices are always available to you in real time. The market values of precious metals products fluctuate constantly, so the best way to get a specific, accurate price on a product is to contact our Precious Metals Specialists at (800) 355-2116. Before they talk to you about prices, they’ll ask you about your goals and help you determine whether diversifying with physical precious metals is a good idea for you. (If you already have experience buying precious metals, let your Precious Metals Specialist know up front.)
We can discuss prices at any point in the process, but the only price that truly matters is the one finalized during your purchase. Quoting prices before then may be informative, but they can also be misleading simply because market conditions change constantly. This timing works in your favor, so you’re never presented with an outdated or misleading number. Every price quoted reflects the true market cost at the moment of purchase.
You'll receive a clear, detailed quote outlining all prices before confirming your order. After your confirmation, your prices are locked in. We do our best to give you total transparency into prices and the purchasing process when it matters most.
Because yes, prices matter. But if owning physical gold and silver isn’t a good fit for you and your family, prices are irrelevant.
It’s an old-fashioned way of doing business, but it’s one we take pride in.
