What Is International Depository Services?

International Depository Services (IDS) is a subsidiary of Dillon Gage Inc., the Dallas-based refiner that’s maintained a world-class international reputation for over four decades as a world leader in physical precious metals trading, technology and refining. Since 1976, Dillion Gage has served numismatic and bullion dealers, financial institutions, banks and brokerage houses worldwide.

IDS depositories are equipped to serve institutions as well as individuals and IRA custodians. Their clients include market makers, institutions and commercial investors, refineries and mining companies, international mints – and everyday investors, too. IDS Group maintains an active membership in the Industry Council for Tangible Assets (ICTA), and individual depository locations have a number of specific accreditations.

Birch Gold works with International Depository Services to ensure that customers’ precious metals meet all IRS requirements for both gold IRAs and silver IRAs, including metal quality and security standards.

International Depository Services Locations

International Depository Services maintains three depositories across North America. The original facility is in Delaware, a state which offers particular tax benefits; other choices are in Texas and in Toronto. Choosing a facility near you gives you the option of visiting your precious metals to see your accumulated assets in person.

International Depository Services of Delaware: New Castle

International Depository Services of Delaware
In the heart of the East Coast business corridor, New Castle (just outside of Wilmington), International Depository Services of Delaware’s location is well poised for business and near the financial hub of Manhattan. New York City is home to the Wall Street.  But it’s not just money that flows through the region…

The Port of New York and New Jersey is the largest port on the East Coast, on-and-offloading over 3 million containers per year. Delaware’s Port of Wilmington adds another 6.5 million tons of cargo per year capacity conveniently near the IDS Delaware facility.

The IDS Delaware bullion depository is one of only eight Commodity Exchange and Chicago Mercantile Exchange (COMEX and CME)-approved depositories. IDS Delaware is one of only nine Intercontinental Exchange (ICE)-approved depositories. Furthermore, IDS Delaware is one of the few approved for all precious metals by COMEX and ICE.

IDS of Delaware is a London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Associate and a National Coin and Bullion Association (NCBA) member, as well. You’re unlikely to find a depository that has more experience with safe and responsible handling and storage of precious metals.

International Depository Services of Texas: Dallas

International Depository Services of Texas
The largest precious metal depository in Texas and the first specialized bullion depository in the Lone Star State. The International Depository Services Dallas facility was added in 2017 to meet booming demand for precious metals storage in Texas, which continues to grow.

IDS Dallas is also a London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Associate and a National Coin and Bullion Association (NCBA) member.

Dallas is centrally located in the geographic heart of the United States, near the world-class superhub Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and can reach 79 major markets overnight by truck or rail.

IDS of Texas is committed to protecting both assets and information, ensuring that each client’s information is confidential and remains private while secured in a safe, insured storage facility. Protecting clients’ business (and personal) information is as important as protecting their physical assets.

International Depository Services of Canada: Greater Toronto Area

The newest facility in the International Depository Services line is located in Mississauga, Ontario, just outside of Toronto. Toronto, of course, is Canada’s biggest financial hub, and one of the top-10 economic centers in the world.

Being next to Toronto means that the Canada depository is near one of Canada’s busiest inland ports, providing ready access to incoming freight and bulk shipments by boat and rail. The Mississauga facility is directly next to the Toronto Pearson International Airport, meaning you’ll have no problem reaching it or finding a hotel. The international connections make IDS: Toronto a favored choice for investors from countries around the world.

And, of course, like IDS’s other facilities, International Depository Services of Canada offers premium security to ensure the safety of your precious metals.

Note that all of International Depository Services’s depositories allow visitation privileges for precious metals IRA customers.  However, Birch Gold does not offer IDS’s Canadian location as an option for our customers.

Securing your assets is the first concern of International Depository Services, as it is literally the crux of its business. As such, few depositories around the world can compare with IDS’s security features, including class III gold vaults (the highest in the business), perpetual internal and external audits, and strict separation of duties for all security personnel.

Benefits of International Depository Services

International Depository Services offers numerous benefits to its customers, including:

  • IDS values every single one of its investors and provides world-class service to each client. You can reach IDS by phone, email, or directly through the client portal at any time.
  • All assets are kept off of IDS’s asset sheet, meaning your precious metals will not be used for investments or for borrowing purposes.
  • If anything should happen to your precious metals at any of International Depository Services’s facilities, you can rest easy: your assets are 100% insured by Lloyd’s of London.
  • To ensure that its security protocols are followed by each member of its team, IDS Group has implemented whistleblower provisions in its handbook so employees can feel safe reporting suspicious behavior.
