IRA Eligible Precious Metals

If you’re in the market for gold, silver, platinum, or palladium that meets IRS guidelines for IRA ownership, you’ve come to the right place. At Birch Gold, we offer a wide selection of coins and bars made from IRA-approved precious metals, meaning you’ll be able to choose your precious metals with total confidence they’re suitable for IRA ownership.

For precious metals to be IRA approved, they must meet purity guidelines – for gold, it must meet a purity of 99.5% (with one exception: American gold eagles), while silver must be at least 99.9% pure. Platinum and palladium must be purer still at 99.95%. It’s a high bar, but it’s also one we pride ourselves on meeting. Furthermore, approved metals must be produced by an authorized refiner or a national mint. See our products below and get in touch when you’re ready to make your selection.

Adding Precious Metals to Your IRA

Each of the four IRA-approved precious metals – gold, silver, platinum, and palladium – has been considered to be a safe hedge against the declining value of fiat currencies. That’s exactly what makes them so popular for retirement accounts, leading to more and more people opening self-directed IRAs that can accept precious metals.

It’s easy to add precious metals to your IRA with Birch Gold Group. In fact, we’ll walk you through step by step, no matter what stage you’re at. If you’d like to speak with our precious metals experts about the process of opening a precious metals IRA, rolling over your existing IRA or 401(k) into your precious metals IRA, or adding precious metals to your IRA, we can help with that. Give us a call at (800) 355-2116 and start protecting yourself from future inflation today.

What precious metals are IRA eligible?

Gold, silver, platinum, and palladium are the only four metals that can be purchased and transferred into an IRA. They must be in coin, bar or “round” form, and they must meet purity standards: 99.5% for gold, 99.9% for silver, and 99.95% for both platinum and palladium.

Can I buy physical gold or silver for my IRA?

You can buy physical precious metals – including gold, silver, platinum, and palladium – for your IRA, provided it is a self-directed IRA and you have made arrangements for both custody and storage of your precious metals. Selecting your custodian and precious metals depository are first steps in opening a precious metals IRA (and while it is technically possible to store your metals privately as part of a precious metals IRA, it isn’t advisable.

Many people pick a storage facility that’s near to their home residence, giving them the opportunity to visit their precious metals in person.

What silver coins and bars are IRA eligible?

For a silver coin or bar to be eligible for an IRA, it has to meet a purity of 99.9%. That includes the Silver Twin Maples coin, the America the Beautiful series, American Silver Eagles, the Australian Silver Florin and the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf, all of which can be purchased through Birch Gold.

Note: The terms “IRA-approved” and “IRS-approved” are commonly used by the public and others in the industry to describe precious metals that may be held in a self-directed IRA, but the IRS does not formally approve specific coins, bars, or rounds for IRA ownership. References to “IRA-approved” on this page should therefore be understood to mean precious metals that meet the applicable requirements specified in the Internal Revenue Code.
